Lights, Camera, Action! Film Places in Val d'Orcia and Siena Area

The south of the Province of Siena and its countryside have become scenarios for years of many successful films: we propose a weekend among these beautiful landscapes and charming villages to visit these places that have been the set of unforgettable movies.
Starting from San Casciano dei Bagni and along one of the most picturesque streets of Val d'Orcia, in addition to enjoying a unique landscape, you can visit the Farm location of
the memorable scene of the Elysian Fields in THE GLADIATOR. Heading to Pienza,  you cannot miss a visit to the impressive Monastery of Sant'Anna in Caprena, where were the most moving scenes of THE ENGLISH PATIENT were filmed.
Before leaving, a visit to Pienza is a must, in particular to the square of this fascinating art city where in 1968, Franco Zeffirelli filmed ROMEO AND JULIET, the film won two Oscars.
You can continue to Montepulciano, a jewel of Renaissance art and set to numerous commercials, but since the late seventies, home to movie sets with directors like Hoffman (A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM) and where a few years later the Italian movie IN NOME DEL PAPA RE with Nino Manfredi was filmed.
If you love horses we then propose a visit to the Equestrian Center Il Poggio in Celle Sul Rigo, to see or ride the horses used for the last film shot almost exclusively in our area, SHADOWS IN THE SUN, a work by Bard Mirman with Giancarlo Giannini.
For the lazy ones we recommend a relaxing bath at the spa Fonteverde of San Casciano dei Bagni, where some scenes of the Italian movie NON TI MUOVERE with Sergio Castellitto, one of the first celebrities to discover San Casciano and to buy himself a farmhouse, where he spends much of the year.
